A user posted a wanted \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tposter with a blurred photo, in which he claimed that two dark-haired, veiled \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twomen had tried to abduct a child. The offenders are Rroma, the initiator \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsuggested. However, according to the police, theses accusations are unfounded: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cThe police sees the story, which reproduces \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe century-old stereotype of child-abducting \u201cgypsies\u201d, as invented. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNevertheless, the Facebook does not fail its purpose: \u201cto Auschwitz\u201d, \u201crape \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthem\u201d, \u201cto the gas chamber&#8221;, these are comments under the \u201cwanted poster\u201d. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIt was shared about 6,000 within a few days, spread by other users. A stupid \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tconflagration of hatred, having no consideration for the law, logic or \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tspelling.\u201d <\/em>Meier sees the many affirmative responses to the inflammatory posting \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tas a symptom of general, increasing xenophobia in Duisburg, that is not \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdirectly only towards, but in particular against Rroma. The inflammatory facebook \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgroup was in the meantime taken offline and an investigation for demagoguery \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twas started. The accusations were not without impact, as the many supportive \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcomments on the social network show, as well as similar expressions at town hall \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmeetings. They stand in a tradition of negative stereotypes, which have been \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tspread about the Rroma for centuries: already in the Middle-Ages, the minority was \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\taccused of abducting and trafficking children. It is thought provoking that \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthese allegations still find so much response. In Germany, according to the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma Foundation, there are an estimated 110,000 to 130,000 Rroma. The majority \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tare well integrated, work, send their children to school and live in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tapartments.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meier, Marcus (2014) Digitale Menschenjagd in Duisburg.
