Her novel tells the life story of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe German Sinto Max Trollmann, who foughts as a boxer in the 1930s against the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trise of Nazism, but then himself becomes a victim of the inhuman machinery. Due \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto his Rroma origins, he was discredited by Nazi functionaries: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cStephanie Beard tells of the rise of this \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tclever young boxer \u2013 and in parallel of the rise of the Nazis in Germany. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRelentlessly, the author shows how unjust, how ruthless, blinded and inhuman one \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdealt with opposition members and with those who did not correspond to the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cAryan\u201d race.<\/em> <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">[&#8230;] Trollmann is the German \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tchampion for only eight days. After that, he is denied the title because he is \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSinto.<\/em> <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">[&#8230;] The boxing federation deliberately \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\treduces the size of the boxing ring to the disadvantage of Trollmann.<\/em> <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">He cannot, as usual, box at a distance.<\/em> <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Trollmann knows that he will lose. He \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tappears with dyed blond hair and a white powdered face, dressed up as a model \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAryan. I\u2019ll see them further first \u2013 his statement goes, which is a political \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tone.\u201d<\/em> \u2013 In Auschwitz-Birkenau alone, 30,000 Rroma were murdered. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tResearchers emanate from at least half a million casualties among the Rroma. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe genocide of the Rroma is much less known compared to the mass murder of the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tJews. For a long time in the post-war period, Rroma were discredited and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmarginalized.
