On the occasion of the International \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDay of children\u2019s rights, Dubuc (2014) reports on the education of Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tchildren in Romania. According to Eugen Crai, director of a Romanian school fund \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor the promotion of Rroma, the enrolment rate of Rroma children is still \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tunsatisfactory. In 2005, only 46% of Rroma children over 12 years went to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tschool for more than four years. George Puiu, a schoolteacher from Fantanele, sees \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tone reason for this in the lacking practical orientation of the schools. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tParents, who are affected by extreme poverty and went to school themselves only \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor a short time, would not sufficiently appreciate the value of education and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinstead need their children as labourers for the family income: \u201cAt the edge of the measures, which the government \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\timplemented since 1990 to integrate the children into the school system, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvarious programs have been launched, such as the \u201cLet’s go to school\u201d UNICEF \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinitiative. In Fantanele, where one of 250 schools is involved in the initiative, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe faculty decided to develop two projects, in order to connect \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\textracurricular and educational activities to make the school more attractive: a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tday of sporting encounter with the other schools and an excursion to the zoo \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand the botanical garden of Bucharest.<\/em> \u201cThis \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tallows the children to put into practice what they have learned in the physical \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand science classes<\/em>\u2026 but also to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcreate a link between the school and the community, by including the parents \u2013 \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tspectators, but also mediators and accompanying persons\u201d, explains the director \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the school, Dora Stefan.\u201d<\/em> \u2013 The article wants to provide a balanced \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpresentation of the topic. Nevertheless, it hides important aspects: racist \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tteachers or school authorities that impede Rroma access to education. A visit \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto the zoo or the botanical gardens will change little about this. The part of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma, who are well educated and do not live in ghettos, is ignored: from the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\testimated one and a half to three million Rroma in Romania, many build part of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe middle class. In addition, access to the labour market is not egalitarian, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tas in many other countries.
