Numerous French \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnewspapers report an escalated conflict between two Rroma families, in an illegal \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsettlement of Toulouse. The members of the two families, originally from the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRomanian village Blaj and of Timisoara, quarrelled about the theft of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\telectricity. At the beginning, the conflict let to a brawl that then escalated further: \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ta 35-year-old Rrom of the Blaj family fell, victim of the dispute. Six members \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof Timisoara family were arrested on suspicion of premeditated murder: \u201cA man of 35 years died in the hospital of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRangueil. Despite an urgently undertaken intervention, the doctors could not \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsave him. His autopsy could not yet be performed, but the man had been hit by several \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprojectiles, bullets or, and (?) lead. Another 24 years old casualty remains \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thospitalised, but is outside danger. Five other injured people who were taken \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto hospital to receive treatment could go home. During the hearing of the ten \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpeople arrested on Friday (two minors were released yesterday), the suspects \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twere not very precise. Although some admitted having used weapons, these were \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201conly\u201d used to shoot in the air. The investigative judge, Mrs Larrieu, will \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thave to narrow down the responsibilities of both parties involved\u201d <\/em>(Cohadon \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2014). In this case, the coverage of the violence in the informal settlement of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tToulouse concerns only Rroma themselves. Nevertheless, caution should be \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texercised in the contextualization of the events: the notion of \u200b\u200bRroma-gangs, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twho exploit primarily other Rroma, is wrong. There is no culture of crime and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tviolence among the minority, as repeatedly suggested by the media. Expressions \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsuch as \u201cfamily businesses of crime\u201d therefore build on massive prejudices. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma are not more criminal or more violent than other ethnic groups. The mayor \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof Toulose, Jean-Luc Moudenc, has announced that the camp, which accommodates \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t200 to 250 persons, will be evicted as soon as possible (compare 20 Minutes \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFrance 2014, Allen 2014, Boffet 2014, Le Parisien 2014, Le Nouvel Observateur \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2014, Lib\u00e9ration 2014).<\/p>\n
