On the initiative of the sociology professor Jean-Pierre \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTabin and the organisation \u201cOpre Rrom\u201d, about half of the several hundred Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tresident in Lausanne participated in the festivities, Genier states. There, they \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcooked and grilled for Gadje (non-Rroma), with the aim to enable a mutual \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tapproach: \u201cLet&#8217;s get to know each other!\u201d was the title of the event: \u201cThe \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tobjective of this event was to bring together Swiss and Roma, two population \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgroups that have remained very separated in general. <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cThis action was conceived to promote dialogue between the people of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLausanne and Roma\u201d, explains V\u00e9ra Tch\u00e9r\u00e9missinoff, director of the organization \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOpre Rrom. \u201cWe wanted above all that this took place in a different context \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthan the street.\u201d Even if the action was mainly responded to by sympathizers of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe various Roma organizations and their acquaintances, some curious people were \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tattracted by the cheerful assembly, and stopped a moment to watch or to drink a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tglass.\u201d<\/em> Although through focusing on coloured costumes, music and dance, some \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstereotypes about the minority seem to have been confirmed, the attempt to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbring the largely invisible Rroma together with the rest of the population remains \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvery commendable. However, the distinction between Swiss and Rroma has to be \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmade with caution, since many Rroma resident in Switzerland are Swiss or \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLausanne citizens themselves.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Genier, Christelle (2014) Un pique-nique a r\u00e9uni Roms et Lausannois.
