Hungarian Spectrum accuses the Fidesz-politician  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto foster the segregation of Rroma pupils in contradiction to his public  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstatements. The special schooling of Rroma children fostered by Balog is the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tresult of a double standards concerning integration: He does not want equality,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbut a special treatment of the Rroma, Hungarian Spectrum criticises: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cduring Hungary\u2019s presidency of the Council  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the European Union in the first six months of 2011, the Hungarian government  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttook upon itself the creation of a Roma program for the entire European Union. From  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe beginning I noted Balog\u2019s reluctance to follow the earlier Hungarian  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgovernment\u2019s strategy of integration. There were also signs that Balog, realising  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe enormousness of the task, wanted\u00a0to dump the problem on the churches.  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t[\u2026] My other suspicion was that in his heart of hearts Balog does not believe  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin school integration. He is convinced that special Gypsy classes enable  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstudents to catch up with their non-Roma contemporaries\u2013separate to become  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tequal. Based on countless studies we know that this is a misguided notion. But  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tit seems that Fidesz politicians cannot easily be convinced by hard data or  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tevidence.\u201d <\/em>In addition, the Minister is accused of having campaigned for  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe reopening of a segregated Rroma school in Ny\u00edregyh\u00e1za, which was closed in  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2007. In spite of the decision of the appellate court that declared segregated  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tschooling of Rroma children illegal, the Fidesz government enacted a change in  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlaw in favour of Balog\u2019s Rroma policy, which allows him to continue administering  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsegregated schools and classes: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cHow  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstrongly Balog felt about this particular case is demonstrated in a press  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trelease his ministry issued on November 6 [\u2026]. This press release is a perfect  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texample of the double talk this government specializes in. The final verdict in  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe case is\u201d highly regrettable because many children will be deprived of a  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsuperior education.\u201d [\u2026] The proposed amendment says that in the case of  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tschools run by churches or in schools serving national minorities the minister \u2013  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin our case Zolt\u00e1n Balog \u2013 can issue a decree that will allow segregated  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tclasses.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hungarian Spectrum  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2014) Zolt\u00e1n Balog, who is in charge of Roma integration, fights for  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsegregation.
