The MiGZIN (2014) reports \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ton the relationship of voters of the right-wing Euro-sceptic party Alternative \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor Germany (AFD) towards Rroma. Occasion for the analysis of the relationship \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbetween party affiliation and socio-political attitudes is the study \u201eDie Parteien und das W\u00e4hlerherz 2014\u201c of the University of Leipzig. The \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tresearchers surveyed 2400 Germans from 18 to 91 years about their electoral behaviour \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand political opinions. Regarding the relationship towards Rroma, the study states: \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cAbout 96 percent of the NPD voters have \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ta problem with having Sinti and Roma in their living environment and think they \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttend to crime.<\/em> 91 percent want to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tremove Sinti and Roma from the inner cities. The corresponding values \u200b\u200bfor the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfollowers of the AfD are at 75 percent and 73 percent.<\/em> Also the majority of non-voters and supporters of the CDU\/ CSU and SPD \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tare rather Gypsy hostile. The most liberal are the supporters of the Green \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tParty, but also among them, a third rejects Sinti and Roma.\u201d<\/em> The study also \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texamined correlations between the level of educational attainment, income, and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsusceptibility to right-wing nationalist ideas: \u201cAmong the voters of the NPD and the non-voters we find the largest \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgroup poor people.<\/em> One sixth of the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNPD voters and one-fifth of non-voters have a monthly income of less than 1000 \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEuros.<\/em> Among the voters of the FDP \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand the AfD there are few with a low income.<\/em> Only 26.1 percent of the voters of the NPD have a monthly household \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tincome of more than 2500 Euros.<\/em> In \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcontrast, 55.6 percent of the FDP voters, 48.3 percent of the Pirate Party \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsupporters, and 47.3 percent of the Green Party voters have an income of more \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthan 2500 Euros. Among the voters of the Green Party, one finds the most people \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twith higher education, 43.5 percent of them have high school diploma. In \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcontrast, only 8.8 percent of non-voters and 13 percent of the NPD voters have \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe high school diploma.\u201d<\/em> The study shows that lack of education and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\teconomic deprivation increase the susceptibility to right-wing nationalist \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpositions. It is therefore the duty of politics to promote the higher education \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof as many people as possible and to ensure the economic appreciation of the different \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprofessional groups. The study\u2019s identified characteristics do of course not \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmean that poor uneducated people are automatically susceptible to extreme viewpoints. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHowever, they have a higher statistical probability than other groups to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsympathise with these positions and to be politically manipulated. In Germany, according \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto assessments of the Rroma Foundation, there are an estimated 110,000 to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t130,000 Rroma. Before the genocide by the Nazis, there were much more. Many \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thave lived in Germany for generations, speak fluently German, go to work and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsend their children to school. They are the proof that the stereotypes about \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe minority are inconsistent with reality (compare Decker\/Br\u00e4hler 2014, Universit\u00e4t Leipzig 2014).\u00a0 <\/p>\n
