After the call for the extinction of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma by the extremist publicist Zsolt Bayer, the topic of Rroma has gained \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tincreased attention by the media. However, according to Odehnal, poor Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfamilies often don\u2019t consume any official media and are not ware of the Bayer \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdebate going on. Odehnal goes on to describe the hardships and discrimination \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmost Rroma face in Hungary, with long time unemployment leading to apathy and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tresignation rather than revolution and upheaval. <\/p>\n<p style=\"background-color: white; \">He continues to explain \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thow the Jobbik party systematically ethnicizes every criminal act done by a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma as inherent part of Rroma identity, declaring it as \u201cgypsy criminality\u201d. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThis mixing of ethnic identity and criminal activities is highly racist, as are \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tattributions of journalists, who describe Rroma as of an aggressive, hostile \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnature. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Despite the empathetic focus of Odehnal \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tarticle, the author reproduces stereotypes about the Rroma by stating that most \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma live in Ghettos outside the villages and have excessive amounts of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tchildren. Additionally, he citties a Spanish infant educator, who sees Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twomen as \u201csubmissive and only wanting many children and Rroma men being openly \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsexist\u201d. Also, when reading the article, when gets the impression, that \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\taccording to Odehnal all of the 750\u2019000 Hungarian Rroma live in the conditions \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\the portrays in his article. He doesn\u2019t talk about the invisible Rroma, which \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdon\u2019t live in Ghettos, the ones who live a life in the middle class and are not \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tseen on the streets. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Alad\u00e1r Horv\u00e1th \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand Anik\u00f3 Kiss (Pester Lloyd 2013) from the citizen\u2019s movement of Hungary \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tposted an official manifesto to the Orban government, asking to finally \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tacknowledge that a humanitarian crisis is on the march, with one million people \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin Hungary, among them around a quarter of Rroma, living under precarious \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tconditions, being close to starving and freezing to death. They criticize, that \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthere is no public moral support for the situation of the Rroma, that the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgovernment doesn\u2019t distance itself from extremist statements made against Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand that there are no social-critical articles in the official media. <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Source:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Odehnal, Bernhard (2013) Die Ausgestossenen.
