{"id":1306,"date":"2014-08-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-08-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/%20rroma.org\/01-08-2014-halle-alliance-against-right-refutes-prejudices-against-rroma\/"},"modified":"2022-08-04T11:48:12","modified_gmt":"2022-08-04T10:48:12","slug":"01-08-2014-halle-alliance-against-right-refutes-prejudices-against-rroma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rroma.org\/de\/01-08-2014-halle-alliance-against-right-refutes-prejudices-against-rroma\/","title":{"rendered":"01.08.2014 Halle: alliance against right refutes prejudices against Rroma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In response to racist \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tabuse against Rroma on the street and on the Internet in Halle (Silverh\u00f6he), \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe \u201calliance against the right\u201d has issued a statement in which it refutes the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tracist prejudices against Rroma and gives context around the the xenophobic \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tslogans: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cApparently, for quite some time \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnow there were prejudices against several Roma families who rented apartments \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin Silberh\u00f6he. In the Facebook group, anti-Roma prejudices are connected with \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinhuman comments and calls for violence. The spraying of anti-Roma and Nazi \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tslogans and symbols in Silberh\u00f6he in the night of July 18th, 2014, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twe see as a direct result of the coverage of the Facebook group\u201d<\/em> (Halle Spektrum \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2014). A detailed refutation of the common stereotypes about Rroma and \u201cpoverty \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\timmigrants\u201d, with whom the minority is often mistakenly equated follows: Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tare not more criminal than other ethnic groups. The authorities have \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texperienced no increase in crime, as members of the demagogic Facebook group claimed. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMost children of Rroma immigrants go to school and are required to do so by \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGerman law. The prejudice of not wanting education is therefore also not true. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAnother racist stereotype is the accusation that Rroma only migrate to Germany \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto exploit social benefits and that the majority does not work. This prejudice \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tis also refuted by critical studies: to receive social funds one has to provide \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tevidence of previous work and of payments to social security. One is not \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tautomatically entitled to social benefits. In addition, there are also many well-qualified \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\timmigrants who are members of the middle class or even the upper class. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMistakenly, it is always assumed that immigrants from Eastern Europe are only \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma: but there also are many ethnic Bulgarians, Romanians, Macedonians, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSerbs, etc. Rroma constitute only a minority in these countries (Halle Spektrum \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2014 I\/II). An estimated 110,000 to 130,000 Rroma live in Germany.
