The Prague Daily Monitor \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2014) reports on the candidacy of two Czech Rroma parties for the European \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tParliament. The \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEqual Opportunities Party (SRP) and the Romani Democratic Party (RDS) will advocate for \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe rights of the Rroma at the forthcoming European Parliament elections of 23th \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand 24th of May: \u201cWith the participation \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof two Romani parties in the EP elections, the Czech Republic is likely to set \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ta record in the EU as no Romani party from Slovakia and Hungary or any other \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcountries with a numerous Romani minority has done so. [\u2026] The manifestoes of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe SRP and RDS are similar. The parties advocate the law on social housing, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twork for people from ghettoes, the limitation of seizures and they want Romani \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tchildren to be sent to normal schools, not to the \u201cspecial schools\u201d for \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tretarded children [\u2026].\u201d <\/em>Rroma activist Radek Horvath criticizes that the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinsistence on ethnically based parties as counterproductive. The Rroma should \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tseek admission in the major parties.<\/p>\n

Kachl\u00edkova (2014) \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\treports on the demand of the Rroma opposition party \u201cTop 09\u201d to introduce Rromanes \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin Czech schools as a teaching language. Anna Putnov\u00e1, of the opposition party, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsees the lack of Czech language skills among Rroma children as an important \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\treason why the children do worse in the schools: \u201cWe send the children to school so that they develop. However, through \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe language we are creating a hurdle. I would therefore like to start a debate \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tabout whether to allow students to use Romani as an auxiliary language in the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfirst, second, and third grade to develop a positive relationship to the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tschool.\u201d <\/em>Some parts of the lessons should be held in Rromanes, the politician \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdemands. Critics counter that the introduction of Romani in public schools would \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpromote the segregation of the Rroma, because it would require ethnically \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdivided classes. Rroma representatives as Stanislav Daniel rather want a better \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpromotion of Czech language skills among Rroma children.<\/p>\n
