The background of the meeting is given by the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcontroversial election posters of the far-right National Democratic Party of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGermany (NPD), which used racist slogans as \u201cstop gypsy flood\u201d or \u201cmoney for \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgrandma instead for Sinti and Roma\u201d during last rounds of elections. Despite \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe massive criticism against the xenophobic campaign, several administrative \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcourts pronounced judgments in favour of the defenders of the election posters, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twho appealed based on freedom of expression. The offense of demagoguery could \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnot be assigned to these posters, which was stated as one of the reasons for \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe rejection of a ban. In return, other cities had frbidden the posters, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfollowing the pressure from local politicians or because Rroma had filed \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcomplaint. The unclear legal position of the controversial posters is the key topic \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the event organised by the federal ministry of the interior that will be \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdiscussed in detail during this meeting. The viewpoints of the central council \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof German Sinti and Rroma will be an important part at the event. The council \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thas repeatedly criticized the demagogic nature of NPD election advertising and condemned \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tit decisively. Joachim Krauss from the German centre for research on Anti-Semitism \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcriticizes the argumentative emptiness of the right-wing nationalist campaign \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tadvertising, as well as the political instrumentalisation of Rroma by the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\testablished parties: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201c\u201cThere is almost \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnever a substantive justification for the rejection, and yet many people do not \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twant Sinti and Roma as neighbours\u201d, says Krauss. The fact that the NPD was able \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto use the issue, is also due to the other parties. AfD and CSU likewise expressed \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthemselves dismissively towards Sinti and Roma with the term \u201cpoverty \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\timmigration\u201d\u201d <\/em>(Schlegel 2014). In this case, a racial discourse about Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twas established with the term \u201cpoverty immigration\u201d, which equates them with \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsocial parasites and anti-social behaviour, although Rroma only account for a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfraction of all immigrants.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schlegel, Laura (2014) Sinti \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tund Roma klagen \u00fcber NPD-Wahlwerbung.
