Pester Lloyd (2014) \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\treports on the government-initiated evictions of Rroma in Miskolc. The enforced \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trelocation leads to sustained demonstrations by residents and activists. About \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t600 people are supposed to make place for the expansion of a football stadium \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twith a large parking space. Previously, the administration tried to prompt the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma to a voluntary relocation with premiums. Most of the apartments have been \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\treleased for eviction due to overdue in payments by the inhabitants: \u201cWith rallies on site one wants to prevent the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\teviction and forced resettlement of 200 families and up to 600 people \u2013 who are \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsupposed to move into an auxiliary settlement in the suburbs or to completely \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmove away, each with a few thousand Euro compensation. \u201cEthnic cleansing\u201d this \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tis termed by the activists. […] On Wednesday, the first two homes were \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tevacuated, one of which was occupied by an elderly woman with an amputated leg, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe other by a family with three minor children. The parents were absent at the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttime of the administrative action. Contrary to popular stereotypes, the father \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twas working and the mother was attending a training session.\u201d<\/em> Pester Lloyd \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfurther criticises that the eviction is illegal, despite of official court \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trulings, since the eviction is dealing with a municipal housing estate and not \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tillegal buildings. Rents were in fact paid what renders the blanket judicial \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdecision unlawful: \u201cThe Fidesz city-government, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfirst of all mayor \u00c1kos Kriza, is \u2013 despite the criticism \u2013 happy that \u201cthe \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trule of law in Miskolc works\u201d, \u201cthe evictions are legal, \u201cbecause the families \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thave not paid rent to the city for years\u201d. Opposition parties, civil rights \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tactivists and representatives of affected persons speak of \u201cinhumane\u201d and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cillegal\u201d actions on the part of the city-government and handed documents to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe media, which should prove the payment of overdue bills.\u201d <\/em>Pester Lloyd \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsees the action as a renewed proof that the constitutional system in Hungary is \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgradually being degraded by the Fidesz-government.<\/p>\n
