In V\u00edtkov, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tabout three hundred protesters, many of them from the right-wing came together \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto demonstrate \u201cfor the rights of all decent citizens.\u201d The demonstrators \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdenounced the racism against the white population and propagated slogans such \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tas \u201cthe Czech Republic for Czechs\u201d. With several arson attacks on Rroma four \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tyears ago, V\u00edtkov has become a symbol for anti-Romany actions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Schmidt \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) also draws a gloomy picture of the relation of ethnic Czechs towards \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma: There were again anti Rroma pogroms in Vitkov this Saturday. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tParticularly insidious is the fact that the Hungarian railways even provided \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\textra trains for demonstrators of the radical right. In Vitkov, several Rroma were \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvictims of arson attacks four years ago. A girl suffered serious burn injuries \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand barely survived. She now suffers from persistent anxiety states. Schmidt \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsees the pogroms as an indication of a worrysome state: The negative attitude \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttowards Roma is supported by a significant part of the Czech majority society: \u201c<em>When the Neonazis sit again in their trains, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnative &#8220;whites&#8221; still shout anti-Roma slogans. Normal people, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpensioners, families with children. An elderly woman says &#8220;The speakers at \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe rally were right,&#8221; about the rioting extreme rightists, and she feels \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t&#8220;disturbed&#8221; by the Roma she adds. It is not an isolated case.\u201d <\/em>When \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\topen hatred towards Rroma is experiencing wider social support, democracy is \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthreatened in the Czech Republic, as stated by the Czech domestic intelligence \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tagency. Sociologists see the sources of this increasingly socially acceptable \u00a0xenophobia among others during the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\teconomic crisis: The insecurity on livelihoods of a large middle and lower \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tclasses fed the idea that Rroma were coddled by the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">According \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto Amnesty International (2013), the European Centre for Human Rights \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tidentified nine anti-Rroma pogroms in the Czech Republic since April this year. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSeveral instances are concerned about the increasing animosity towards Rroma in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe Czech Republic.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Amnesty International (2013) R\u00e9publique \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttch\u00e8que.
