Korol had published racist statements against Roma  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\timmigrants from Southeast Europe on his website, which prompted his exclusion  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfrom the SPD Bremen. The prosecution based its decision on the argument that  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twhat Korol stated fell under freedom of opinion could not be considered as an  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tincitation to racial hatred. Korol had claimed on his website that Rroma live \u201csocially  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand intellectually in the Middle Ages, their men have no inhibitions to send their  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tchildren to beg instead to school or to kick their women\u2019s teeth\u201d (Stengel,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2013).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In Amstetten a group of  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttravelling by Rroma wanted to set up a temporary camp in front of a former  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tauction hall. Camping is however prohibited there. The group was evicted by the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlocal police. The incident occurs at a time where in the debate in Europe around  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmigration due to poverty, Rroma are increasingly discussed and simplifying stereotypes  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tabout them are in circulation (The Courier 2013).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In Nienberge in  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWestphalia, a group of a dozen Rroma settled on truckers\u2019 stop. The site had  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbeen previously been locked. Social Councillor Thomas Paal is unhappy that this  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tspace is being used. It is unfit for this purpose, especially for families with  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tchildren. Ms. Brigitte Hasenj\u00fcrgen in charge of this place is committed to keep  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tit open. The immigrants from Romania are planning to stay in Germany and enrol  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttheir children in school there (Peter 2013).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Around 5000 Rroma live  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand work currently in Schleswig-Holstein. The Commissioner for Minorities  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRenate Schnack asked the residents of the area in a public announce to support  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe Rroma in their efforts to integrate. As part of the project \u201cMaro temm\u201d  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(Our Land) of the Housing Association of the Sinti in Kiel, 13 housing units for  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tneedy Rroma were built (Shz 2013).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">In the Neuk\u00f6lln district  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof Berlin on can currently see the exhibition \u201cThe Rroma Image Studio\u201d. The  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texhibition gives Rroma artists the opportunity to present a self-view of the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgroup whose identity is otherwise mostly represented by outsiders. The show is  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tintended to enable a view beyond that of the \u201cracist clich\u00e9s, the supposedly  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcriminal migrant workers or [the] kitschy images of Balkan and Gypsy folklore\u201d.  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe black and white portrait series \u201cMas Vilag\u201d shows for example a  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfragmentation and complexity rather than a clear, singular view of the Rroma  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tself-identity (Oxen 2013).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The NZZ (2013) speaks on  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe Rroma debate in Germany. It commented that it was quite relevant, whether in  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe debate on poverty immigration, one talks about ethnic or social issues and  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbackground. In the first case one will speak about cultural tolerance and minority  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trights while in the case of \u201csocial issues\u201d, of individual rights and social  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstandards. The so-called \u201cRroma problem\u201d is much more a question of poverty rather  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthan a lifestyle choice. In the course of post-socialist transformation to  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcapitalism, large masses of Rroma were impoverished.
