{"id":1512,"date":"2014-06-13T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-12T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/%20rroma.org\/13-06-2014-zoltan-balog-differentiates-between-worthy-and-unworthy-taxpayers\/"},"modified":"2022-07-25T15:22:19","modified_gmt":"2022-07-25T14:22:19","slug":"13-06-2014-zoltan-balog-differentiates-between-worthy-and-unworthy-taxpayers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rroma.org\/de\/13-06-2014-zoltan-balog-differentiates-between-worthy-and-unworthy-taxpayers\/","title":{"rendered":"13.06.2014 Zolt\u00e1n Balog differentiates between \u201cworthy\u201d and \u201cunworthy\u201d taxpayers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pusztaranger (2014) writes \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tabout a recent interview with Zolt\u00e1n Balog (Fidesz), the Minister of Human \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tResources, on the Hungarian radio station <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">L\u00e1nch\u00eddr\u00e1di\u00f3<\/em>. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn the conversation, Balog says that the state must <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cmake a difference between problem families and those who are capable, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgiving support to the government (through taxes).\u201d<\/em> To this end, the state secretariat \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor social affairs and inclusion will be responsible for beneficiaries in the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfuture and the state secretariat for family and youth for providers. According \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto Pusztaranger, Balog differentiates the category of \u201cbeneficiaries\u201d into \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tadditional subgroups: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cself-inflicted fall \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinto need or without fault\u201d; thus \u201cguilt\u201d is introduced as a new rating \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcategory for poverty. This is the historic Christian discourse of \u201cthe worthy and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tunworthy poor. [&#8230;] Since the Middle Ages, the \u201cworthy poor\u201d were the ones who \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcould not sustain themselves for their livelihood, especially the sick, the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\telderly, widows and orphans. The \u201cunworthy poor\u201d were healthy and able-bodied \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpeople to whom idleness was ascribed.\u201d<\/em> Among the beneficiaries Balog identifies \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe disabled, vulnerable children and Rroma. The fact that he considers the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma as self-inflicted in distress, Pusztaranger deems as being obvious. This \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tassessment is worrisome insofar, because Balog is also the person responsible \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor the Hungarian Rroma strategy. In his lecture at the University of Zurich, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin the summer of 2013, he had pompously highlighted the massive efforts and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsuccesses of Hungary to integrate the Rroma. That these promises were not just \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tempty words is greatly to be hoped, however, very doubtful given the latest \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnews.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pusztaranger (2014) Zwei-Klassen-Sozialpolitik.
