The educational institution is financed by \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprivate funds, which the school principal has to search for continuously. The \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstudents, who usually come from very modest backgrounds, have nothing to pay. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe project creates a counterpoint to the often criticized segregation of Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tchildren in Slovak public schools, where, up till now and in spite of massive \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinternational criticism, little has changed. The school supports motivated \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma children from the poorest slums in the east of the country. There, most \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsettlements have unemployment rates that tend toward 100%. Schultheis finally \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstates: \u201c<em style=\"color: rgb(23, 23, 23); \">According to a new UN study,<\/em> \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<em style=\"color: rgb(23, 23, 23); \">one in five Roma children in Slovakia is \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tenrolled in a special school for the mentally disabled. The Slovak government \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trepeatedly rejected claims of alleged systematic discrimination.
