In a highly one-sided, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tracist article, Styles (2014) reports about a Rroma who is said to abuse the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBritish welfare system. The article is largely identical to the text of Rawle \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2014) from April 3rd of this year, which also portrays the Romanian \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRrom Yonn Lazer as a welfare scrounger, who is said to act deliberately and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tshamelessly. The repetition of the same subject with the same informant makes \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tit obvious that the aim is not objective journalism but stirring up resentment \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tamong the readers. Lazer is presented as proof that the British immigration \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpolicy has failed and plunges the state into ruin. Objective facts are not \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmentioned. Instead, the stereotypical, racist notion is spread that all Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\timmigrants are impoverished, poorly educated, and abuse the British social welfare \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsystem. In addition, Styles claims that Lazer is in direct dependence of a clan \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tchief in Romania, to whom he has to give a share of all his incomes. This is another \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpopular stereotype about Rroma, which is based on prejudice and not on facts. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThrough the presentation of many prejudices, the article makes itself \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tuntrustworthy, but reinforces resentment among the readership. Styles vilifies \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tall members of this minority by establishing a clear link between ethnicity and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsocial abuse. Thus she makes herself indictable for racist defamation. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRight-wing populist views are presented as if they were objective facts. That these \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tare extreme, individual cases is not discussed.<\/p>\n
