{"id":22240,"date":"2023-11-12T10:38:31","date_gmt":"2023-11-12T09:38:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rroma.org\/?p=22240"},"modified":"2023-11-12T10:38:31","modified_gmt":"2023-11-12T09:38:31","slug":"hungary-and-the-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rroma.org\/de\/hungary-and-the-war\/","title":{"rendered":"Hungary and the War"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shortly before the end of the war, Hungarians committed mass murder against Hungarians: At the beginning of February 1945, snipers and gendarmes gathered local Roma at the border of V\u00e1rpalota, dug a pit with them, and then shot them: one hundred and eighteen people were murdered, while another five victims were executed in the main square of the city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite this, plans for a memorial to the victims of the Roma Holocaust were prepared in Hungary early in 1974, even by international comparison: the sculptor was Gy\u00f6rgy Jov\u00e1novics, an outstanding figure of the neo-avant-garde generation of artists.
