{"id":1098,"date":"2014-11-01T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-11-01T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/%20rroma.org\/01-11-2014-romani-rose-condemns-migration-policy-towards-rroma\/"},"modified":"2022-07-27T07:48:44","modified_gmt":"2022-07-27T06:48:44","slug":"01-11-2014-romani-rose-condemns-migration-policy-towards-rroma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rroma.org\/fr\/01-11-2014-romani-rose-condemns-migration-policy-towards-rroma\/","title":{"rendered":"01.11.2014 Romani Rose condemns migration policy towards Rroma"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">In a recent statement, Romani \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRose, chairman of the central council of German Sinti and Rroma, criticised the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trepressive migration and asylum policy towards Rroma from Eastern Europe. 25 \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tyears after the end of the Soviet bloc, a new wall between East and West Europe \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmenaces to emerge, fuelled by xenophobic policies and corresponding migration measures, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tparticularly aimed against Rroma: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201c25 \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tyears after the fall of the wall, Romani Rose, chairman of the central council \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof German Sinti and Roma, cautions against a new division of Europe \u2013 at least \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor the members of his minority. The debate about the so-called poverty \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmigration, which took place on the back of the Roma, has led to the situation in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEastern Europe \u201cthat someone with dark eyes and dark hair is arrested on the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tborder\u201d, Rose said during a visit to the of Bundestag Vice-President Claudia \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRoth (Green) at Central Council in Heidelberg.<\/em> <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">[&#8230;] For the Roma of the Balkans, Roth called for a rapid improvement \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin the situation. \u201cWe must begin by acknowledging that there is a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgroup-specific persecution:<\/em> <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">these \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpeople are persecuted and discriminated against because they are Roma\u201d, Roth \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsaid.<\/em> About the last point, however, there is no consensus. While most \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texperts agree that Rroma are affected by severe economic hardship and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdiscrimination in everyday life, there is no consensus on an ethnic-related \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpersecution. This is disputed by various parties, which refer to the long, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thistorically documented integration of Rroma in Eastern Europe. Comprehensive, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tobjective studies on the situation of Rroma since the end of the Soviet bloc, about \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe rise of nationalism and the Yugoslav wars, which massively altered the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsocio-political situation \u2013 and renewed and ethnic divisions \u2013 are rare. Rose \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\talso expressed the wish that a museum about the Rroma history should be opened \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin Berlin.
