On the occasion of the proclamation \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the \u201cRroma Pride\u201d day of October the 5th, Abtan (2014) of the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tanti-racism organization \u201cEuropean Grassroots Antiracist Movement\u201d calls for more \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcommitment of all forces operating in Europe to reduce the discrimination \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tagainst the Rroma minority. On the initiative of the organisation and in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcooperation with local Rroma associations, days of action will be held in various \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEuropean countries. Abtan uses the Czech concentration camp Lety as an example \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthat the recognition of the Rroma and their history is until today not \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsufficient. At the site of the former camp, where an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma were murdered, there is a pig farm, which was built during the Soviet \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trule. Again and again, Rroma organisations have asked for the demolition of the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfarm and the creation of an appropriate monument: \u201cWhat does the defilement of the location of Lety tell us? It is the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tattempt to erase a past that [allegedly] did not happen. The indifference to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcertain sufferings of certain individuals. The relationship between the past genocide \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand the racist violence today. It tells us a story of commitment to remember. A \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trevival of dignity and solidarity with which human rights activists, Roma and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnon-Roma, have organised the first European memorial on site. 18 countries were \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trepresented. It tells us about the shared sense of belonging to Europe, about \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe common love of the values \u200b\u200bof democracy. The defilement of Lety tells us a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpart of the current history of Europe. However, across the continent, there are \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tracist acts of violence perpetrated against Roma.\u201d<\/em> That\u2019s why the fight \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tagainst the continued injustices against the Rroma is so important, so that the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tyounger generation may have a better future, which is not shaped by hopelessness \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand discrimination (compare Abtan 2014\/II). <\/p>\n
