The Rroma were displaced from their homes by the city government of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMiskolc because of the construction of a parking lot for a football stadium. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhile the city government pointed out that the persons affected were financially \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcompensated upon presentation of a valid rental contract, journalists and Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\torganisations refer to the racist motives of the responsible Fidesz-politicians. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOne wanted to get deliberately rid of the Rroma by an act of \u201cethnic \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcleansing\u201d. Wacker comments: <em>\u201cIn \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpreliminary consultative talks, one explained these 65 persons their chances to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tasylum, states L\u00e9a Wertheimer by the Federal Office for Migration FOM. Following \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthis, everyone decided to withdraw their asylum applications. 41 people have \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\talready left Switzerland. The other 24 will leave in the next few days. A few \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof them are paid some hundred francs for the journey home. The Roma had stated \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthat the Hungarian authorities evicted them from their homes in their hometown \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMiskolc, to build a new stadium. Beat Meiner of the Swiss Refugee Aid believes \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthat Switzerland has handled the procedures correctly, but warns: \u201cThe Roma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thave it very difficult in Hungary. Repeatedly, violence occurs against them, there \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thave also already been dead persons.\u201d The Swiss authorities insist that they \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thave examined the cases individually. As an EU country, Hungary applies as a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsafe state in Switzerland anyway, L\u00e9a Wertheimer of the FOM explains. \u201cThis \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmeans that the state protection from persecution is basically guaranteed.\u201d <\/em>Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tare not politically persecuted in Hungary. However, this does not mean that \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthey are not affected by severe discrimination in everyday life, especially \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsince the rise of the right-wing nationalist parties, which consciously elevate \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tethnic differences. This fact is not recognized by the Swiss asylum agency.
