Paris Normandie (2014) \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\treports that Jean-Marie Le Pen, founder of the rightwing-nationalist Front \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNational, is again set to appear in court on October the 9th. Le Pen had claimed \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tat a party congress in 2012 that the Rroma steal as naturally as birds fly. In \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFrench, the word \u201cvoler\u201d means both \u201cto fly\u201d and \u201cto steal\u201d. Le Pen was \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsubsequently sentenced by the criminal court of Paris on December the 19th, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2013, in the first instance, to a fine of 5000 Euros. Since he has appealed \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tagainst the judgment, he must now appear before the court of appeal of Paris: \u201cThe attorney for the MEP, Mr. Wallerand de \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSaint-Just, refers among others to the \u201cright to humour\u201d. A law which \u201ccontains \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlimits, and which must stop at the point where violations of human dignity and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpersonal attacks begin\u201d, the tribunal had reminded. If the last \u201chas in no way \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thas spoken about humour or word games of good taste\u201d, the judges estimate that \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe controversial statements indicate to a willingness to stigmatisation, which \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdegrade the Roma \u201cwith a comprehensive and severely insulting stereotype.\u201d\u201d <\/em>Pierre \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMairat, co-president of the anti-racism organization MRAP, which had filed the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlawsuit against Le Pen, condemned his remarks as a disparaging and demagogic. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe the court of appeal will communicate its verdict on November the 20th \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(compare 20 Minutes 2014, BFM TV 2014, Le Nouvel Observateur 2014). <\/p>\n
