M\u00e9tout (2014) reports on \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe eviction of an informal settlement Rroma in Ivry-sur-Seine. Around 30 \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfamilies lived on a terrain of the French rail network (R\u00e9seau Ferr\u00e9 de France \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRFF), since July this year. On September the 30th, the justice ruled that the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlocation has to be evacuated. The reasoning of the court referred to the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsecurity flaws in the camp: \u201cRFF had \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdemanded the intervention of the public authority, pointing to an imminent \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthreat. People had been spotted on the railway tracks, and the power supply of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe camp had been done through a transformer, which is used by the SNCF.<\/em> Therefore, the prefecture has promised an \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\turgent intervention.<\/em> Upon the arrival \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the police this Thursday, one of the two grounds was completely free of any \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tresidents. \u201cOn the site there were a dozen families, as the collective in support \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the Romanians of d’Ivry stated.<\/em> They \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdecided to go away on their own.<\/em> The \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tothers have no clue, where they shall go.\u201d <\/em>In France, according to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tassessments of the Rroma Foundation, there are an estimated 100,000 to 500,000 \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma. The majority of them is integrated, goes to work, speaks French and has \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tits own accommodations. Many of them live in France for several generations. The \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmedia, the politicians and the public do not perceive these invisible Rroma: \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthey are even denied existence. On the other hand, there is a minority of the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tminority, approximately 17,000 recently immigrated Rroma, who get all the media \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tattention. \u2013 These marginalised Rroma are hindered in their integration efforts \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tby the relentless expulsion policy of the French state, especially the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tchildren, who are often enrolled in local schools, are negatively affected by \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe continuous expulsions (compare RTL 2014). \u00a0<\/p>\n
