From November the 10th to the 16th, under \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe slogan \u201cPutren le jakha! &#8211; Open your eyes\u201d, around 70 young Rroma activists \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfrom eleven countries came together to discuss the topic of \u201cantiziganism\u201d. The \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tevent was hosted by the Austrian Rroma association Rromano Centro: <em>\u201cAntiziganism is a form of racism that is \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdirected against people that are stigmatised as gypsies.\u201d<\/em> <em>The manifestations range from daily \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdiscrimination and structural racism to violent assault and murder. Under \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNational Socialism, half a million people defined as \u201cGypsies\u201d were murdered. This \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgenocide is still little recognised.<\/em> [&#8230;] <em>Mustafa Jakupov from Macedonia reports that Roma are being prevented \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfrom leaving their country: \u201cAt the insistence of Western European countries, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstrict border controls are carried out. Racial profiling means that many Roma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tare no longer allowed to leave their country.<\/em> <em>25 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, there is again a country in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEurope that does not allowed its citizens to leave.\u201d<\/em> [&#8230;] <em>\u201c\u201cBeggars\u201d dominate the representation of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRoma in the Austrian media and many journalists spread stereotypes that they do \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnot question.
