{"id":1268,"date":"2014-08-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-08-27T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/%20rroma.org\/27-08-2014-stereotypes-rroma-gangs-as-con-artists\/"},"modified":"2022-07-26T14:00:57","modified_gmt":"2022-07-26T13:00:57","slug":"27-08-2014-stereotypes-rroma-gangs-as-con-artists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rroma.org\/fr\/27-08-2014-stereotypes-rroma-gangs-as-con-artists\/","title":{"rendered":"27.08.2014 Stereotypes: Rroma gangs as con artists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Weder (2014) of the <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Thurgauer Zeitung<\/em> reports on a \u201cRroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tclan\u201d from Germany that is said to betray unsuspecting mostly elderly people out \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof tens of thousands of Swiss francs, by offering the cleaning or the sale of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\toriental rugs at exorbitant prices: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cTheir \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tappearance is serious, friendly and courteous, their practices are audacious \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand ruthless. They pretend to be carpet experts, the police searches for them \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor fraud. They fool unsuspecting people, con huge amounts of money out of them \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand disappear without a trace. Their trick: they clean old oriental rugs and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsell new \u2013 for supposedly unbeatable prices. In fact, the carpets are barely \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tworth anything and the quality of the cleaning is more than questionable.\u201d <\/em>Behind \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe tricksters one suspects predominantly the \u201cGoman-Clan\u201d, a Rroma family from \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLeverkusen who is said to be specialised in this activity, as a representative \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\the Canton police St. Gallen confirms. The offenses described here shall not be \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttrivialised. It is a crime which must be punished. However, it is very \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tproblematic to explicitly address the ethnicity of the perpetrators and to present \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tit as an explanation for criminal offenses. This suggests that the crimes are a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcultural trait of the Rroma. Rroma are not more criminal than other ethnic \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgroups. With this, one defames the majority of the respectable, integrated Rroma, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twhich are not delinquent and one engages in intellectual arson, by sustaining a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpejorative view of the minority. Moreover, the notion of hierarchically organised \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfamily gangs who commit crimes under the command of a clan chief has to be questioned. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe idea of \u200b\u200bhierarchical family goes back to the false assumption that Rroma have \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ta strictly patriarchal family structure, with clear hierarchies and relationships \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof dependency. While it is true that the family has an important status among \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe Rroma, its organisation is largely egalitarian.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weder, Janique (2014) Die Masche der Teppichbetr\u00fcger.
