{"id":1285,"date":"2014-10-29T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-29T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/%20rroma.org\/29-10-2014-giving-a-voice-to-romnija\/"},"modified":"2022-08-04T11:42:01","modified_gmt":"2022-08-04T10:42:01","slug":"29-10-2014-giving-a-voice-to-romnija","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rroma.org\/fr\/29-10-2014-giving-a-voice-to-romnija\/","title":{"rendered":"29.10.2014 Giving a voice to Romnija"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Schultheis (2014) reports  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ton a program by the Heinrich B\u00f6ll Foundation in the Czech Republic that seeks  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto promote the political participation of Romnija (Rroma women). For this  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpurpose, eight selected students were trained in political participation for  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tone year, to motivate them to an active role in socio-political processes<em>: \u201cThe foundation, close to the Green party,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twould like to motivate Roma women (Romnija) to become politically active and to  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbecome decision makers themselves. Thereby, they also shall refute the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstereotype of Roma as uneducated, passive welfare recipients, by their own  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texample.\u201d <\/em>Schultheis spoke with Eva van de Rakt, director of the program in  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPrague, on the experience of the last course: <em>\u201cThe special thing about this year was that we had an exceptional election  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tyear.<\/em> <em>It began in October 2013, with  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe earlier new elections,<\/em> <em>then in  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMay the elections to the European Parliament, and now in October the communal  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand senate elections.<\/em> <em>That was indeed  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvery, very helpful for this course, because one could discuss very specific  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tquestions in the group that were related to these elections.<\/em> <em>For practical part it is important that we  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttry to establish direct contacts. This year, many conversations with  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpoliticians took place, and the experience shows that these are core  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texperiences for the Romnija.<\/em> <em>They  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\talways report that it incredibly motivated them to become active themselves. <\/em>The  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttheoretical knowledge that the Romnija were taught in, encompasses knowledge  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tabout the political system of the Czech Republic, the parties spectrum, the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcurrent educational, social and health policy, but also skills in rhetoric and  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpublic communication. Through the program, many of the participants were  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tencouraged to become actively involved in politics or in civil society. But the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tproblems of access of Rroma to the education system remains, mostly because of  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdiscrimination and institutional obstacles. Moreover, not only Romnija that  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\talready have good education should be fostered politically, but also marginalised  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma, both women and men. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schultheis, Silja (2014) \u201eRoma-Frauen in der  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPolitik eine Stimme verleihen\u201c &#8211; Eva v. d.
