{"id":1288,"date":"2014-10-29T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-29T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/%20rroma.org\/29-10-2014-rroma-mediators-against-prejudices\/"},"modified":"2022-08-04T11:42:01","modified_gmt":"2022-08-04T10:42:01","slug":"29-10-2014-rroma-mediators-against-prejudices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rroma.org\/fr\/29-10-2014-rroma-mediators-against-prejudices\/","title":{"rendered":"29.10.2014 Rroma mediators against prejudices"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Werkh\u00e4user (2014) reports on a current project \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the council of Europe, which, with specifically trained mediators, aims at reducing \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprejudices between the Rroma minority and majority populations of the European \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnation states. In addition to the prevention of racial prejudice, the ROMED-2 \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tproject aims to improve the access of Rroma to the labour market and to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\teducation: <em>\u201cHe often gets asked the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfollowing, tells the Sinto Romeo Franz at the launch of new mediators program:<\/em> \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<em>\u201cMr. Franz, why are you discriminated \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tagainst? Then he answers: \u201cYou don\u2019t need to ask me, ask those who discriminate \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tagainst me\u201d, Franz tells with a wink, but the message is clear:<\/em> <em>Sinti and Roma in Germany have to deal with \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ta variety of prejudices. This applies to the recently immigrated Rroma from \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSouth Eastern Europe as well as to those families, who have lived in Germany \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor centuries, like the one of Romeo Franz. <\/em>[&#8230;] <em>With a million Euros per year for all 12 participating countries, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tincluding Bulgaria and Romania, the funding for the program is not exactly \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tabundant. Therefore, in Germany, one resorts to mediators whose positions are \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\talready funded. But money is not the main problem, says Bunjes [coordinator for \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma issues in the council of Europe. \u201cThe EU provides many resources for Roma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprojects that are not used.\u201d In many places, the willingness to deal at all \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twith the problems of the Roma is prevailing, he states.\u201d<\/em> It has been \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trepeatedly pointed out by critics that Rroma themselves do too little for a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsuccessful integration.
