In \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe village of Bodvalenke, Rroma artists from all over Europe have contributed \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto the production of 33 murals on the outer walls of village houses.\u00a0 The subjects of the paintings cover \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tboth Rroma folklore and religious representations. The aim of the campaign is \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto strengthen both the self-confidence Rroma\u00a0 as well as to attract tourists to the small village characterised \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tby high unemployment. The Rroma, according to Gorondi, were particularly affected \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tby the economic crisis: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cThe Roma have \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbeen hit particularly hard by the economic and financial crisis starting in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2008 in Hungary. During the communist era, which ended in 1990, they had mostly \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tguaranteed low-skilled jobs. But since then, many Roma, including those in a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvillage close to the Slovakian border, have had a hard time finding their place \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin a more competitive society. Half of the residents in Bodvalenke are younger \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthan 18 years, and most of the adults are unemployed and live more badly than well \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ton government support.\u201d<\/em> The idea of the murals comes from the activist \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEszter P\u00e1sztor. However, the project is not without controversy. The mayor of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe village would much prefer proper jobs.
