Jim Davies, Rrom \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand himself policeman in the Thames Valley police force, had started a lawsuit against \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\this employer because of racist treatment of members of the Rroma community. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBoth he himself and Rroma people being in contact with the police are affected, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\the states. Davies accuses the police force to have discriminated against him \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor years because of his origin. In response to the discriminations, Davies \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfounded an association for police officers of Rroma or traveller origin, the <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Gypsy Roma Traveller Police Association \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(GRTPA)<\/em>. In reaction to the accusations, the Thames Valley Police has begun \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinternal investigation into the incidents criticized: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cIn a statement, Thames Valley Police said it would \u201cnot tolerate any \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tform of discrimination towards any minority group\u201d. It added: \u201cIn light of the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tissues and observations raised by PC Davies, a review of how Thames Valley \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPolice engages with Gypsy Roma Traveller communities will be commenced. \u201cThis \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\treview will be conducted independently and will involve a review of existing \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpolicies and procedures to ensure Thames Valley Police serves all of its communities \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand ensures that any racial stereotyping or outdated practices and procedures \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tare amended or removed.\u201d <\/em>Davies also states that most policemen with a Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbackground keep their identity a secret, because they otherwise will also be \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfaced with prejudices and discrimination. With the founding of his Rroma police \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\torganisation, Davies wants to strengthen both the role of Rroma policemen as \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twell as the acceptance of the police among the general Rroma population.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Green, Chris (2014) Police accused of \u2018institutional \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tracism\u2019 towards Romanies.
