{"id":1402,"date":"2014-02-07T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-07T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/%20rroma.org\/07-02-2014-the-tagesspiegel-fuels-the-idea-of-a-rroma-problem\/"},"modified":"2022-07-24T16:01:08","modified_gmt":"2022-07-24T15:01:08","slug":"07-02-2014-the-tagesspiegel-fuels-the-idea-of-a-rroma-problem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rroma.org\/fr\/07-02-2014-the-tagesspiegel-fuels-the-idea-of-a-rroma-problem\/","title":{"rendered":"07.02.2014 The Tagesspiegel fuels the idea of a \u201cRroma problem\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">After the debate on \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\timmigration from Romania and Bulgaria to Germany has now run for over a year, a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfew journalists like Christoph von Marschall still argue that because of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpolitical correctness, the debate doesn\u2019t address the topic of potentially \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdangerous Rroma immigrant. What he identifies as too much political correctness \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tis in fact a one-sided focus on the members of an ethnic minority. To ethnicize \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\timmigration doesn\u2019t solve anything. Where he obtained the information that the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\timmigrant population described by him is in fact primarily consisting of Rroma is \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnot discussed. The ethnic membership is not covered by the immigration \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstatistics for ethical reasons. Instead, Von Marschall relies on his supposedly \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprofound knowledge as Rroma expert and spreads absurd and false ideas of travelling, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmostly illiterate Rroma and the cultural incompatibility of Rroma and ethnic \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGermans: \u00a0\u201c<em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">In the overwhelming majority \u2013 in other EU countries it is openly \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tspoken about \u2013 these migrants are Roma. [ &#8230; ] Focal points, where this \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmigration creates tensions with citizens and communities also exist in Berlin: \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin Neuk\u00f6lln, in Wedding, in parts of Sch\u00f6neberg and Reinickendorf. What else is \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto expect when <strong>so different cultures \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tclash<\/strong>? Roma have avoided for centuries the powers of regional authorities \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tas a <strong>\u201ctraveling nation<\/strong>\u201d; they \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdeveloped their own solidarity and acquisition systems best suited to their way \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof life, long before there was an EU, guaranteeing freedom of movement. In \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGermany they now face modern <strong>administration \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor the sedentary. [ &#8230; ] Many Roma are illiterate. [ &#8230; ] Roma need modified \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tintegration concepts.<\/strong> They do not accept the usual help for the homeless, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbecause their families can not be separated by gender.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" class=\"MsoNormal\">Von Marschall exercises epistemic \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tviolence on the Rroma by spreading false information about them. More insight into \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\this own ignorance would not hurt him. Many Rroma can read and write, most Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tare sedentary and strive to achieve successful integration, if one allows them \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto. Among the immigrants there are also many ethnic Romanians and Bulgarians. There \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcan be no talk of cultural incompatibility. The supposed incompatibility is ascribed \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthem entirely by Von Marschall with his massive prejudices. Fortunately, his \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tarticle also imbued with the insight that successful integration requires the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcooperation of all parties involved and should not be dominated by fear and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprejudice.
