He insists that immigration from  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEastern Europe is not a Rroma problem but an economic phenomenon. Many skilled  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tworkers from Romania and Bulgaria have come to Germany for economic and social reasons,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twithout provoking questions on whether they are Rroma or not. This only happens  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twith so-called \u201cpoverty immigrants\u201d, who are usually hastily referred to as  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma. It is important to emphasize, Demir states, that the German Rroma-organizations  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tare not contact- but dialogue-partners for the debate on immigration: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cNot to be forgotten is the question of what  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe self-organization of my people can contribute. This includes the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twillingness to be available as a dialogue partner. In addition to that, the council  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof experts recommends entering into dialogue with the Roma self-organizations. It  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tis important to emphasize: a dialog partner is not a contact-partner. The self-organizations  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tjustifiably see themselves not as a contact for immigration from South-Eastern  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEurope, precisely because it is not a Roma problem and should not be further  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tethnicized. [ &#8230;] It is unclear how high the Roma population of immigrant  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBulgarians and Romanians is. Basically, it\u2019s not even relevant. Because the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmembership to an ethnic group says nothing about the level of education or  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\teconomic status of a person.\u201d<\/em> &#8221; This viewpoint is contradicted by the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\topinion of many German politicians, also conservative ones: Rroma are heavily  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdiscriminated against and marginalized in Romania and Bulgaria and therefore come  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto Germany because they hope for a better life there. From this perspective,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tethnicity is not entirely irrelevant. However, in the political debate it is  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tunjustly intermingled with misleading culturalisms as Rroma clans, patriarchal  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstructures or allegedly cultural-related anti-social behaviour and crime. In  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthis context, Demir is completely to agree with that ethnicity should be kept  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tout of the discussion.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demir, Merfin (2014) Europ\u00e4ische Binnenmigration auch f\u00fcr Roma!
