Schmalzl \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) reports on the deportation of a Rroma family back to Kosovo. Friends of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe family were taken aback and expressed solidarity by lighting candles in the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tYouth Art School M\u00fchlhausen, where the family had attended a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpainting course. The family was arrested in their house in the middle of the night \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tby the authorities and brought to the airport. Once again, this case raises the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tquestion of the discrepancy between the real experiences of migrants in their \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thome countries and the state views on minority protection and living \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpossibilities. Schmalzl cites a young Rromni, who speaks of \u201cviolence, discrimination, and poverty\u201d<\/em> \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin Kosovo.<\/p>\n

Bernhardt \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) reports on a fire in an apartment building in Duisburg. Located on the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tKirschstrasse in the Hochheide area of the city, this house is inhabited \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlargely by immigrant Rroma. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand evacuate 42 people who had fled to the roof of the house. According to the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpolice, it is highly probable that this was arson. This raises legitimate \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tconcerns among residents and supporters of the victims. A few weeks ago, a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tparade of right-wing groups who protest against immigrant Rroma in Duisburg \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcaused quite a stir. Connections between the arson and the far-right scene are \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttherefore currently suspected. Various anti-fascist groups are calling for a better \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprotection of the Rroma by the police.<\/p>\n

Der Westen \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) reports on a ruling of the Essen Higher Social Court. The court has \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\truled in a dispute between a Rroma family and the Jobcentre of Gelsenkirchen in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfavour of Rroma family. Between October 2010 and November 2011, the Jobcentre \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thad not granted the father of the family any benefits since he could only stay \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin Germany in search for a job. This view is now contradicted the Essen Social \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCourt: EU citizens without job who have stayed for a longer period in Germany \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tare entitled to Hartz IV benefits. The Jobcentre will appeal the decision in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfront of the Federal Social Court. The decision is grist to the mill of those \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twho warn of a mass immigration of poor migrants from Romania and Bulgaria, and who \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthus see the German welfare state as endangered. Especially Romanians and Bulgarians living here and \u00a0desperately seeking work now have rights \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto claim Hartz IV benefits. The municipalities could see now numerous new \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tapplications and thus new increased costs\u201d <\/em>( 2013\/II der Westen).<\/p>\n

Blazejewski \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) points to the fact that there are large discrepancies among politicians \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin terms of ideas about immigrants from Romania and Bulgaria. While many German \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlocal politicians, such as Reinhold Spaniel, assume an influx of low-skilled \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmigrants, EU Social Affairs Commissioner L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Andor sees in the immigrants young labour force for \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe growing German economy who pose no problem for the German social welfare \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsystem.\u00a0<\/p>\n
