Several French newspapers report about the imminent eviction of an informal \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma-settlement in Marseille. Around four hundred Rroma, including many \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tchildren, would be affected by the planned eviction. Several aid organizations \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprotested against the plans of the prefecture. The request for a moratorium on \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tevictions was rejected by the administration. Paul Kopp, president of Rencontres Tziganes<\/em>, criticized in a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstatement that the expulsion policy pushes the Rroma from one camp to the next, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbut changes nothing to their long-term situation. A moratorium on evictions \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twould allow them to plan and implement a long-term integration. Civallero \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2014) summarizes: \u201cAccording to the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprefecture, the population of the Roma in Marseille amounts to 1,200 to 1,300 \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpeople. In 26 areas settlements have formed, since the beginning of the year, five \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tevictions took place, according to the organizations. In October last year, the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlargest camp in Marseille was evicted, located in the quarter Capelette of the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t10th arrondissement, many families subsequently settled on the site of La \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tParette.\u201d <\/em>\u2013 In fact, it\u2019s astonishing how persistently the French \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tauthorities evict the informal settlements at regular intervals, although new \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsettlements are create shortly thereafter.
