The father of the family, Jozsef Pusuma, worked for an NGO as an \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinvestigator of hate crimes in Hungary. In July 2009, according to the family\u2019s \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstatements, a fatal incident occurred: during a walk they were brutally \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tattacked by right-wing extremists, the daughter remained unharmed only because \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the sacrifice of her father, who protected beneath himself. The attackers \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsaid that this would not be the last attack, if Jozsef did not stop his \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tactivities. Subsequently, the family immigrated to Canada. The Pusumas have now \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbeen living in the sanctuary of a church in Toronto for two years. Fearing to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbe deported, they have never left their refuge. Their asylum application was \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trejected. Against the lawyer himself, who should have represented their case, a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlawsuit because of misconduct was submitted: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cThe family, originally from Hungary, is one of 18 complainants against \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tToronto lawyer Viktor Hohots, the subject of an ongoing disciplinary proceeding \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tby the Law Society of Upper Canada for failure to \u201cadequately prepare\u201d a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdefence of his clients\u2019 asylum claims. [&#8230;]\u201cJozsef and Timea have finally been \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsummoned to appear as witnesses in the lawyer\u2019s misconduct case. They have been \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twaiting for this moment for almost three years now, because it\u2019s their chance \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor vindication,\u201d said the family\u2019s new lawyer, Andrew Brouwer, of the Refugee \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLaw Office clinic. \u201cBut now they are facing a Catch-22. They are required by law \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto attend the hearing. If they don\u2019t, they could be arrested for contempt of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcourt. But if they do go, they face arrest for deportation the moment they set \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfoot outside of the church.\u201d <\/em>The new lawyer of the family and numerous \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsupporters demand a temporary residence permit for the family, so they can attend \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe lawsuit without fear of deportation. \u2013 Canada is being criticised for \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tuncompromisingly applying the status of safe countries of origin, which Hungary \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thas been assigned by the Canadian law, and to address to little the individual \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstories of asylum seekers (compare Brosnahan 2014).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Brosnahan, Maureen (2014) Roma Pusuma family living in Toronto sanctuary caught \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin legal bind.
