20 Minuten \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) with its article on a lawsuit against two Rroma pimps presents a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tperspective of culturally determined relations of exploitation, reproducing the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnotion of clan-like dependencies, ratios, exactly as the Weltwoche does over \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand over again: \u201cThe District Court of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tZurich convicted the clan chief in the summer of 2012, among others for human \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttrafficking and sexual assault, the son for promotion of prostitution. [… ] \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe prosecutor told the Superior Court of the brutal and unscrupulous actions \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the accused. These corporal punishments and threats made the exploited victims \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdocile with corporal. The women who were purchases as goods had to give all the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trevenues of the clan chief.\u201d <\/em>What is questionable is of course not the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcharges of the violence done to these women, , but the finding that it is due \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto culturally determined structures and relations of exploitation. The article \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\timplies the fact that this pimping is a Roma-specific phenomenon.<\/p>\n

Hasler’s \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) article discrediting human trafficking also gives the impression that this \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcase is the consequence of clan-like, strongly hierarchically organized Rroma \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgroups: \u201cSince 2008, The Zurich stree \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprostituion on the Sihlquai and the Langstrasse was dominated by Hungarian \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRoma. The area allocation among the pimps was not without tensions. [… ] The \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tson did not hesitate to send his partner and mother of his children to \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprostitute herself and they harass her when she opposed it. He used such \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tphysical violence that the woman had to be driven to hospital by ambulance. At \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe conclusion of the criminal investigation, the wife of the public prosecutor \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tannounced that she wanted to marry the 25 year old.<\/em>\u201d Several authors explain \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tconvincingly that the notion of clan-like, hierarchical structures among the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma is wrong (Daniels, 2013, Mappes – Niediek 2013, Martens 2013, Tabin \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2013). Representing pimping as a culturally driven phenomenon can only be \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdescribed as absurd. That on needs to decidedly combat human trafficking is \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbeyond question.<\/p>\n
