Mirkovic \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thas interviewed countless Rroma in months of work and documented their everyday \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlives. She receives regular visits from journalists from Germany who are \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinterested in her work. Usually she asks them two questions. First, what he or \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tshe wants to know about the slums and secondly, what he or she actually knows \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thimself about Rroma. With this second question Mirkovic goes to the core of the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tissue. Her intention is to create new images that can compete with the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tentrenched stereotypes. Besides stereotypes, the essence of the slums lies at centre \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the film \u201cslumdogs\u201d. Majic states: \u201cWhat in the West is either glorified or \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbranded a part of gypsy culture, is actually the result of unbearable misery. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThis reality cannot be banished away from one\u2019s own doorstep, by simply declaring \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tits consequences to be the nature of a particular ethnic group.\u201d The film \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcritically examines this ethnicisation of poverty as a self-chosen way of life, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand take a look into the slums, not in a third world countries, but the middle of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEurope.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Source:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Majic, Danijel (2013) Die Slums in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tder Mitte Europas.
