Many local Hungarians  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand Rroma respect L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Bogd\u00e1n as being a local leader. He thus represents a  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcontrast to many other communities in Hungary, which elected rightwing  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpoliticians. Since 2006, Bogd\u00e1n is committed to the cooperation between Rroma  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand Magyars in his village. Through his initiative, with the help of  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgrandparents children are better prepared to school, attendance and truancy  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trates have fallen. The village Cserdi is a good example showing that the adopted  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnational Rroma strategy should be implemented just not only nationally but first  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlocally. Under Bogdan\u2019s leadership, a farming cooperation has been created and  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmany houses were renovated by community work. He plans to create a Roma  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tskanzen, a traditional Rroma village, for touristic and cultural purposes,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twhich also will create new jobs. The village Cserdi is, as stressed by the Pester  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLloyd, a rarity, but one that actually represents the \u201cmanifestation of a  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpossible normality\u201d. It remains an exception in Hungary until further notice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pester Lloyd (2013\/II)  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\talso reports on the increased severity of penalties against Rroma in Hungary.  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNine young Rroma were found guilty by the court of Miskolc to have attacked  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfour Magyars in a car and to have done so for racist motives. The special  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfeature of the case is the fact that the attacked Magyars belonged to the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNational Guard, which had previously been deployed in the place in question and  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twho acted against Rroma. The defendants sat two years in custody prior to the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttrial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The newspaper \u201cMagyar  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tH\u00edrlap\u201d where Zsolt Bayer called with in a column for the extermination of  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma, was condemned by the Hungarian Media Council because of the publication  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the article to a fine of 800 euro. In addition to the fine, the newspaper  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmust publish the decision of the Media Council in one issue. The really fundamental  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tquestion, namely the incitement to hatred and racial discrimination was  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trejected by the relevant courts, however, since no \u201creal and immediate threat\u201d  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof the verbally attacked minority existed. That verbal incitement goes  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tunpunished in Hungary is very questionable.
