Maudet  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlaments the increasingly large number of offenses committed by Romanian  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcitizens in Geneva, in addition to the already known begging Rroma. These are  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsaid to be combated most effectively through an improved cooperation between Romania  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand Switzerland. Unfortunately, a very one-sided notion of the Rroma is created:  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDuring his stay in Bucharest, \u00a0Maudet  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvisited almost exclusively the Rroma district <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Ferentari <\/em>where around 18,000 Rroma live in poor conditions. However,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnot all Rroma live in ghettos and are poor. In addition, it is very problematic  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto conclude that poverty leads to an increase in crime. As can be analysed in  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe article, Maudet sees the delinquent Rroma as involved in begging, stealing  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand prostitution networks. These are common stereotypes about Rroma: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201c\u201cThe delinquency originating in Romania is  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tabout to exceed the North African delinquency in Geneva, explains Pierre  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMaudet. Violence against older people or homosexuals, prostitution networks,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tburglaries, pick-pocketing, theft by deception and shop window theft, break-ins  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinto cars&#8230; In the end, more than 400 arrests per year were made \u2013 \u201cIn 2013,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twe counted 1284 Romanian suspects\u201d, clarifies the state counsellor [&#8230;].\u201c<\/em> However, begging is not to be equated with criminal begging networks, as  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcritical studies show. In addition, begging income is very modest. Prostitution  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand human trafficking are not the same. Maudet indicates that he also sees economic  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgrievances as a reason for migration to Geneva. But he also presents this  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tproblem incorrectly as a \u201cRroma problem.\u201d Rroma are not more criminal than members  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof other ethnic groups.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Habel, Robert (2014) Pierre Maudet chez les Roms.
