The film  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texplores the marginalization of Rroma by the Hungarian majority society, which  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin the case of the story &#8211; based on true events &#8211; led to the racist murder of  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tseveral Rroma families. Rother (2013) of the FAZ interpreted the film as a plea  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor the right of existence of Rroma: <em style=\"font-family: Arial; \">\u201c&#8217;Csak  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ta sz\u00e9l&#8217; is not the first film from Hungary, which deals with the fate of the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma or, as we say here, Cig\u00e1ny. While formerly the integration stood at the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcentre, as in one of the best known examples, in P\u00e1l Schiffer documentary movie \u201cGyuri  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCsepl\u00f6\u201d from 1978, it seems the situation has gone so far now that movies have  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto defend the mere right of existence of these citizen.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Assheuer  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) interprets the film as an indictment of a latent state racism, which deems  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma to be outside of the law and so they deliver into the hands of racist mobs.  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFor these economically-racists arguments, Rroma are just useless bodies that do  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnot contribute to the increase of national wealth: <em>\u201cThe moment where the state singles Rroma out of the universe of civil rights,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\the declares them to be outlaws &#8211; he delivers them to the hatred of the society allows  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthem to be shot as Misu, the errant pig, in the forest. [&#8230;] Fascism therefore  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdoes not mean that the state built camps. It means that it takes the Rroma the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tright to have rights, and leaves them to the mob.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Taszman  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) emphasizes that the film became a political issue prior to its presentation  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tat the Berlin Film Festival. The Hungarian Ministry of Public Administration  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand Justice, and the Secretariat of State for social integration issued a  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tleaflet handed out to journalist, which represented the attitude of the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHungarian society and the Hungarian state towards Rroma as being open-minded.  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe letter repeatedly stressed the massive efforts of the Hungarian government made  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto successfully integrate Rroma.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Schnelle  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) describes the film as an allegory about the omnipresent fear of  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsomething that is not visible. The invisible in this case is represented by the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsudden arrival of the murderers, which, while the Rroma family indeed suspects  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twill happen, cannot be articulated exactly. The father of the family now dwells  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin Canada, which one would like to follow on as soon as possible. Schnelle  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnotes: <em style=\"font-family: Arial; \">\u201cFliegauf hardly tells of actual  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tevents. It is more of a film centred quite directly on fear. The family, threatened  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tby racist terror and abandoned by a silent majority, is trying to survive the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tday after the last attack. And in the evening, as darkness falls over the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvillage, one moves in bed together even more closely than usual.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Krings  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) describes the film as an oppressive portrait of repressed social  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\treality: <em>\u201cBence Fliegauf created a  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttremendously haunting film with &#8220;Just the Wind&#8221;, a laconic drama that  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\taccuses simply by showing a social reality that is often overlooked in Europe.  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOf course, such a film is no pleasure, though he builds tension like only a few  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthriller can. It is the cold power of horror. It is also about what Europe has  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto hide.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Peitz  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) sees the film as a portrait of people who were declared outlaws and must  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tconstantly reckon with death. In this \u201cTropic of Fear,\u201d as it was called by the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tjury of the Berlinale, only extreme restraint and going for invisibility offers  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsome protection: <em>&#8220;[The film] is a  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsnapshot from the lives of vulnerable people, almost unbearable du to fear.  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBence Fliegauf glossed over nothing, many a Rrom in the film breaks his back  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twith had work , some are just broken existences. But you can see the causes of  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe destruction, can feel the pogrom atmosphere with one\u2019s hands. \u201cThere is no  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpolitical film in Hungary, no more socially committed cinema\u201d the director  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstated in a recent interview, self-critical of his own profession.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Rebhandl  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) emphasizes that the film genuinely shows the transition between nature  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand civilization, institutions, and vulnerability and tries to show, in which  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsocial atmosphere \u00a0ideological  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmurders can happen: <em>\u201cA few weeks ago, a news  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twent through the press that the Hungarian case against four men who allegedly killed  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsix Roma in 2008 and 2009 is not progressing. They are still sitting in custody  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand whether there will be a process is unclear. \u201cJust the Wind\u201d leads a  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcompelling indictment in a process that goes far beyond juridical concerns.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>Sources:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assheuer, Thomas (2013) Und am Abend bist du tot.
