The young Rrom Darius, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twho fell victim of a lynching in the Parisian suburbs, has awakened from an \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tartificial coma, as several European newspapers reported. Darius can speak and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trecognize his family. However, how he has experienced the incident himself, and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twhat his views are, is not discussed. He was probably not yet interrogated. The \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tperpetrators of the incident are still unknown. The prosecutor of Bobigny has \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinitiated a proceeding for attempted murder: \u201cThe boy was nearly beaten to death in mid-June, in a case of severe \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvigilante justice of a dozen residents in a deprived district in the north of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tParis. According to the police, he was violently abducted from a Roma camp, abused \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin a basement, and found a few hours later unconscious in a supermarket \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttrolley. He suffered serious head injuries. According to data from legal \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcircles, the victim was known to the police for theft\u201d <\/em>(Die Welt 2014). The \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texact circumstances of the incident are still not verified, as are the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tallegations with regard to the victim. The incident led to massive accusations on \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFrench politics, which negatively politicises against Rroma since years and instrumentalises \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthem for election campaigns. Other critics, in return, point out that the lynch \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcase is the result of many years of failed social policy that has created law \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfree zones of misery (compare Le Monde 2014, Le Parisien 2014, Millot 2014).<\/p>\n
