The bakery in the neighbourhood of Tuscolano had a sign \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twith the words \u201centry for Gypsy strictly prohibited\u201d (\u00c8 severamente vietato \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tl&#8217;ingresso agli Zingari) placed in the shop window. The Rroma organization <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">21 lugio<\/em> criticized the sign as \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tanalogous to racist practices under National Socialism and apartheid. After the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbakery received an anonymous complaint, they removed the sign from the shop \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twindow. However, it is very worrying how much approval the prohibition sign \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tobtained, despite some protests: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cBut in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsome quarters of Rome the bakery owners got full support.\u201cIt\u2019s right \u2013 they\u2019re \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tall thieves,\u201d one city shop-keeper told The Local. \u201cYou have to be careful \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\taround them, how can you distinguish between a good and a bad one?\u201d she said, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnot giving her name. Another shop owner lamented that only yesterday she had \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbeen robbed by someone from a traveller community.\u201d <\/em>The passive tolerance \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof such discrimination by a large part of the majority population is especially \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tworrisome, as it is what makes such racism possible.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Local (2014) Rome&#8217;s &#8216;No gypsies&#8217; sign sparks \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfurore.
