This is reflected  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin lower life expectancy, increased sensitivity to various diseases and  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\toutright discrimination in health institutions. The widespread poverty among  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma additionally hinders their access to good health care. On the occasion of  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthis large deficit, the European Commission launched a conference with the aim  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto reduce discrimination when accessing health care. For Rroma, this means  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbetter participation in the implementation of health programs. The Rroma need  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto be more involved in the conception and execution of these programs. It is frightening  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthat the topic does not end with discrimination, but there are still deliberate  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tphysical interventions such as sterilizations, that are performed: <em style=\"font-family: Arial;\">\u201cWhen Roma are  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsegregated from other patients, coerced into sterilization during childbirth,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgiven substandard treatment, or told to go elsewhere for follow-up, all  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEuropeans are degraded. It is a shocking irony that many of us should  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texperience such harm at the very hospitals and clinics that ought to provide us  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twith support and care. The result is costly for Europe\u2019s economy and for health  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsystems. Europe\u2019s Roma population is young \u2014 the average age of Roma is only 25  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u2014 but too many of us lack the education and training needed to enter the labor  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmarket, resulting in the loss of 175 million euros each year, according to the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWorld Bank.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jovanovic, Maja Saitovic (2014) To make European health fairer, answer the  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tneeds of Roma.
