A petition and a now-banned \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFacebook group called for the expulsion of around 140 Rroma from this city of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t20,000 inhabitants. The case is symptomatic of the continued segregation of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRroma in Poland according to Focus (2013), as well as in the neighbouring \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSlovakia. Low education rates and poor integration led to a persistence of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpoverty and exclusion: <em style=\"font-family: Arial; \">\u201cMany Slovak and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPolish Roma are illiterate, unemployed and on welfare. Because despite \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcompulsory education, not all children go to school &#8211; partly out of fear of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdiscrimination, partly out of fear of assimilation &#8211; the way the next \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgeneration is poised to misery.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Focus (2013) Kleinstadtkrieg: Polen hetzen gegen ungeliebte Roma.
