Mappes-Niediek \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(2013) provides information about a restaurant project in the Slovenian town of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMaribor. The restaurant will be operated by Rroma and to a certain extent reduce \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe high unemployment locally. Against this project co-initiated by the mayor, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlocal resistance has been organised: the critics, among them local \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\trepresentatives, fear that the restaurant will become a Rroma meeting place \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twhere there will be only Rroma. The cook Aj\u0161a Mehmeti decidedly stated that she \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twants it to be a restaurant for all. For Slovenes, Serbs, Bosnians and Rroma. But \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor the project to work, it needs not only the support of the mayor, but also \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe support of the local population. So far, this is missing: \u201cMeanwhile, the Roma have the key for the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlocal. The contract is signed, an architect has looked at the rooms. But the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMaribor Rroma do not look like winners. Friendliness or integration you can not \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tjust win by fighting.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

On the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbasis of the fate of the young Rrom Orhan Jasarovski, Gojdka (2013) discusses \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe injustices of the social structures and asylum procedures. Orhan has \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tepilepsy and a lame leg. He came with his family as a youngster from Macedonia \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto Germany. Here he hopes for a better life outside of poverty and exclusion. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHe works hard and wants to study. But the German migration authority has other \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tplans. Orhan and his family have to return to Macedonia. After numerous legal \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thurdles and thanks to the support of German helpers, he manages to make it back \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto Germany. But the recognition as Rrom remains difficult. As before, there is \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ta clear discrepancy between verbally expressed sympathy and real recognition: \u201cIn a literature seminar at the university a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlecturer speaks finally about Sinti and Roma: “An anti-social people on \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe margins of society”. Jasarovski boils. His pulse skyrockets. Every \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tword is like a knife in his heart. Anger about the lecturer. Rage over his own \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcowardice not to have outed oneself. Then Jasarovski stands up. “I know \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbest what Roma are,” he says, “I ‘m Gypsy.” Many friends renounce \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttheir friendship. Too deep are the literary and non-literary stereotypes of the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthieving Gypsies, the travellers and the child abductors. In the literature, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tone must analyse these pictures scientifically, says Jasarovski. But he also \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tknows that he can not meet the bitter reality scientifically.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
