{"id":1850,"date":"2013-05-31T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-31T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/%20rroma.org\/31-05-2013-rroma-in-the-czech-republic-anti-rroma-pogroms-in-duchvok\/"},"modified":"2022-08-05T09:26:39","modified_gmt":"2022-08-05T08:26:39","slug":"31-05-2013-rroma-in-the-czech-republic-anti-rroma-pogroms-in-duchvok","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rroma.org\/fr\/31-05-2013-rroma-in-the-czech-republic-anti-rroma-pogroms-in-duchvok\/","title":{"rendered":"31.05.2013 Rroma in the Czech Republic: Anti-Rroma Pogroms in Duchvok"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Neumann (2013) reports about  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tan anti-Rroma rally in Duchvoc, in the North Bohemian part of the Czech Republic.  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAfter a Czech couple was attacked by a group of Rroma, around 800 people  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprotested against the Rroma in the Republic. According to Neumann, the pogrom  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tis reminiscent of riots that happened in the same place two years ago. At that  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttime a dispute between adolescents led to massive violence that could not be  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprevented by the authorities. Neumann assesses the situation as follows: \u201cExperts  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thave repeatedly pointed out that the situation since the events in Zipfel has  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnot significantly changed. At any time, in any place in the Czech Republic,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twidespread antipathy can erupt into open violence against Roma. Conversely,  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlong-term unemployment and the getthoisation of life for Rroma make for an uncontrollable  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsocial powder keg.\u201d He looks in particular the risk of renewed exploitation of  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthis situation by extreme right-wing groups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Zimmermann (2013)  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tprovides information on Czech students aged 12 to 15 years views on ethnic  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdiversity. The company Scio made a study of the students\u2019 behaviour and tested it  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tamongst other with the game \u201cMultipolis\u201d, which through role-plays allows insight  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tinto the situation of other ethnic groups. The conclusion of the study was  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsobering: A third of the students surveyed do not want to be friends with a  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRrom. About 40 percent would even actively participate in a protest march  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tagainst Roma. Among other reasons, the study criticized the reductionist views  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twhich are presented to children in their own families, in the media and in  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tschool. But it also points out to how deeply rooted social values \u200b\u200band attitudes  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tare, and what weight social conformity has when it comes to questions of  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tacceptance. A sobering finding. Zimmermann commented: \u201cStudents could also  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdetermine how they imagined an ideal friend. They were able to choose from a  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tseries of images and descriptions. The result was that most of the youth  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdecided against people with a different skin colour, against overweight and  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tagainst nerds. Therefore, the most important factor to respondents was as little  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdeviation from the norm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kachl\u00edkova (2013)  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\treported on the Khamoro Rroma festival in Prague. The festival focuses on  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmusical entertainment, but also shows movies and organises discussion events on  \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsocial issues such as active integration.
