Rroma – Not a Profession

An interesting article on the Ukrainian Rroma, and most notably on the Servi, a group of Rroma that is thought to have fled present day Romania very early and have a Vlach dialect. Recent research seem to say that they have Carpathian origins. Seems unlikely although there are Carpathian Rroma in the Ukraine, the Plaščuni.

Two articles on two burglaries and a story on robbery of joggers in Lille in the North; a burglary in the South; police interdiction of begging near Paris; in Lyon, an illegal occupation of a house; and finally more in the usual topic, a fire in a camp in Aix en Provence.

Hungary: Operetta on Rroma

A Hungarian Operetta on Rroma has debuted at the Hungarian National Theatre. The play has been on stage in 2014 in Hungary and abroad. The performance claims to show f Roma Culture and traditions and to seek authentic Gypsy music and dance show of the world.
The plot however, is clearly biased towards the life in the Cigany Telep, the Rroma ghettoes in villages and towns of Hungary. Quite full of stereotypes.

Slovakia’s President Wishes

Andrej Kiska’s address to the Slovaks for New year also had words about Rroma:

“It will be an important year in which it will be seen whether sole general response of the State to problems of socially deprived Roma citizens will only be repression.” The president also said that “in some places we need improvements, and we need a plan that specifically children gradually bring forth of ignorance and poverty”. Small regional examples that work, according to the president and, they should be scaled up to larger dimensions.
