A polemic started in France because of a planned moive by a French humourist – Christian Clavier – called “Sivouplééé” – a play on the French “please” as pronounced by Romanian Rroma beggars. This movie shows a leftist intellectual who has to open his home to a family of Rroma. And of course, all stereotypes are present.

Jews and Serbs have boycotted the celebrations of the liberation of the Croatian Concentration camp of Jasenovac on Friday the 22 of April. This is an infamous concentration camp where many Jews and Rroma were exterminated by Croatian Ustasha. Jews and Serbians are protesting against the rehabilitation in Croatia of people associated with this regime and crimes.
And the spring comes, and camps are dismantled or at least threatened … The French constant. In Ris Orangis, near Paris, a camp was dismantled; in Annet sur Marne, the tribunal will decide on May 6th about the camp, a camp which has neighbours up in arms; in Lyon, a new camp in the city; in the North, Rroma are being displaced to a new location in Vauban amidst opposition; and near Paris, a commune searches for a solution for sedentarised travellers.
Meanwhile, former residents of a camp in Paris are looking for a new address; and mayors in several cities in France are really increasing their racist rhetoric. Finally, a Bulgarian death in a camp lands in front of the justice – with the usual background of “human trafficking”.
The Hungarian Roma Autonomy is in trouble. This pseudo governing body representing Rroma in the country has to pay back money due to irregularities in grants and loans during the previous government. They obviously can’t.
A bomb was thrown at a Rroma children day care centre during the night in Zagreb. The daycare centre is located in the same building as the Rroma association of Croatia. This brings bad memories ….
The Slovak authorities have taken almost no measures aimed at reducing the segregation of Rroma in the Slovak School system. This is a SHAME!
The Rroma families who occupied a church in Hamburg (see earlier reports) 6 month ago to protest their upcoming expulsion out of the country will be deported after all.
Bad!
The city council of Vilnius, in Lithuania, approved measures and a program aimed at the integration of Rroma in the city.
A young Rrom was brutally beaten in Bulgaria (and the beating was filmed) for having said to the man he was his equal… If this is not racism!
The man has now been arrested. Let’s see what he is condemned to.
