Poland and Integration

The President of the “Royal Roma Foundation”, Bogdan Trojanek, wrote to the president of the city of Puławy and the chairman of the city council. He accused the councillors of propagating harmful stereotypes, and asked the local authorities to define a new program to integrate this community with the participation of Roma.

Poland: In Court

IsAmUxPompa is one of the most popular Polish youtubers. His channel is watched by nearly 1.8 million people. While most of the films have to do with games, he has also uploaded films with definitively racist content and the prosecutor’s office is accusing him of insulting a group of Roma origin. Initially, the defence of Szymon K. even applied for conditional dismissal of the case, which the court ultimately did not agree to. He is now to be judged.
Let’s hope also condemned – which is far from certain in Poland nowadays.

Poland: Expulsions – Maybe …

The story of the Limanowa housing estate is still going on. The mayor of that city wanted to evict Roma from a building in the centre of town without providing any alternatives. This has been dragging on in courts ever since the Ombudsman started legal proceedings against the municipality.

Following the beating by 4 Roma of the owner of a Pizzeria (Desperado), an editorial in the local Newspaper went into a total rant against all Roma.
To cite: “Until now, the Roma were tolerated in Puławy, although they do absolutely nothing to deserve it. They are shameful and demanding. Everyone lives on pensions, and it is not not known on what basis these are granted by the doctors …”

Exhibition in Nitra, Slovakia

An exhibition on the premises of the Nitra Gallery will last until 30 April and will showcase the HateFree project, which was first presented in the DOX Center of Contemporary Art in Prague. This project is responding to an increase in hate towards minorities in the Czech Republic. In its present form, the exhibition was established in cooperation with the Museum of Romany Culture in Brno and presents the work of artists from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary.

Poland, YouTube, and Racism

The Pole Szymon K., a 33-year-old from Środa Wielkopolska, appears on the Internet under the name ‘IsAmUxPompa’ and produces videos that are extremely racist against Roma. He says openly “I hate Roma” and some of his videos have had more than a million views.
The Poznan prosecutor office is investigating. Everyone should ask Google to remove the guy from YouTube.

An interview of Adam Bartosz, Activist, on why the Roma Holocaust is so little known in Poland. This was recorded in Lithuania on a commemoration of the Holocaust and the inauguration of a novel depicting the Holocaust through the eyes of a young Rom.
What Adam Bartosz forgets to say is that speaking of bad things can bring the Evil back, and hence, many Polska Roma simply never spoke about it, not even to their families.
