News this week seem to be dominated by a fire in a Rroma camp in the North of Paris variously note as being Porte de Clignancourt or Porte de la Chapelle, luckily without victims but with quite a bit of damages. The displaced Rroma are concerned due to lack of alternatives.
The other set of news is from the North of France, with additional aggressions reported near the Deûle canal in Lille, with other women reported having been aggressed by Rroma men. As a result, the city of Lille is requesting the closure of a nearby Rroma camp.
These news are really bad and perpetuate a criminal view of Rroma.

Not that many news this week either on the Rroma camps. A to start, two news that are more positive. Rezé, a town in Western France is setting space aside for Rroma and in the South West, a delegation went to Strasbourg to see how they dealt with Rroma, as it is better there. On the other hand, a insertion village in Saint Open, near Paris is being closed; a fire in a squat near Paris forced ca. 80 Rroma on the street; a new squat in the North; and finally a really bad news with a young women aggressed in the North by 5 or 6 young Rroma. Luckily, she could defend herself and flee.

Girls are less prone to be arrested and put in prison, unless they are Rroma, that is. This is the conclusion of a stuty conducted by a sociologist in Paris and its neighbouring communes.

Luc Jousse, a mayor from south of France was definitively condemned for his statements following a fire in a Rroma camp in his commune. He had stated: “C’est presque dommage qu’on ait appelé trop tôt les secours” [ it is almost a pity that one called the fire brigade to early]

Mixed set of news this week. Near Paris, a camp burnt down in Rungis, and Rroma cleaned it; another camp simply “vanished” by itself before the police could intervene; and the camp of the petite ceinture gets a reprieve; and the Paris prefect is attempting a new project for the insertion of Rroma. In the North, in Loos, a militant ecologists is being tried – he is accused of running over policemen on his bicycle during a manifestation for Rroma; in Nantes, still no solutions for a squat; while in Strasbourg, Rroam were arrested for picking pockets during a concert.

An article by All-Jazeera about the evictions in France that saw 10’000 Rroma evicted in 2016. What we are missing here is that these 10’000 are part of the roughly 20’000 Rroma who live in camps in France, and that this proportion is evicted almost every year.
Instead of evicting, a solution should be found. It would be cheaper!

Jean Marie Le Pen, who had been condemned in first instance for his statements against Rroma is appealing the decisions. Let’s hope he will not succeed!

A few news this week in France. The camp on the tracks of the former “petite ceinture” railway in Paris and another one nearby in the 18th Arrondissement will have to be vacated within 4 weeks; a new centre for migrants is opening up in Ivry, north of Paris, and will also accommodate ca. 50 Rroma; the views of an Italian journalist of La Stampa on a French Northern Town; the closure of a squat in Toulouse; and, as usual Breizh Info (rightist webpage) on Rroma criminality.
