Not many news this week on Roma. In the North, the headline asks what alternatives there are to shantytowns. Warranted question in France, where the very same 20’000 people get pushed from one to the next precarious lodging. Then, a camp closure in Lille; an aggression of firemen as they came to the rescue of a person in a Roma camp in Montpellier (Bad); in Lyon, an expulsion ith the expulsed people squatting in a square; and finally in Lyon, the insertion village closure, after a really successful period seing all the Roma having found a job an housing.

The town of Solihull, near Birmingham (UK), has published the costs of clean-up of travellers camps on the commune in the last two years. Not pretty. Bad to flout the costs, allowing the press to seize the opportunity to bash travellers, but also bad that such high costs are needed in the first place.
A better solution needs to be found.

A camp in Lille will be closed on Monday, leaving 134 people without shelter. In Saint Denis, near Paris, a more constructive approach is being taken: Integration and education. And finally in Strasbourg, a squat was closed too.

Plovdiv – “Reportage”

This kind of news is really not positive. Focus making a reportage on Plovdiv, telling that a part of the town is now called “Dortmund”. So far nothing bad, but they put it in relation to the current polemic around children social help that is supposedly abused.
How about saying that many Roma from Plovdiv actually go and work in Germany …
